Tsutenkaku Ichiban Street: Osaka as a fold-out night panorama
Tsutenkaku Ichiban Street gathers the energy of an Osaka night street into a compact Book Nook. Closed, the illuminated Tsutenkaku Tower rises between multi-storey restaurants, lanterns and a dense succession of signs.
Open the two sides and the miniature becomes a 180° panorama formed from three connected areas. The tower remains at the centre while ramen, yakitori, izakaya and seafood restaurants extend to the left and right.
An Osaka street that changes format
From compact Book Nook to cityscape: closed, it fits between the books; opened, it reveals both sides of the street and gains the breadth of an entire neighbourhood.
The tower as a landmark: illuminated Tsutenkaku connects the two halves visually and remains the focal point in both compact and panoramic formats.
Every restaurant has its own façade: ramen, yakitori, izakaya and seafood venues are distinguished by lanterns, display windows, counters and signs.
A restaurant shaped like a ship: its hull, anchor, sail and stairway form part of the architecture, giving the left side of the street an unexpected silhouette.
Warm LED lighting with a manual switch: a physical on/off switch illuminates the tower, lanterns and restaurants against the deep blue evening sky.
An intermediate project with a striking result
The difficulty is ★★★☆☆ – Level 3, Intermediate. The numerous façades, signs and moving central connections reward close attention to the build sequence and precise alignment, making this a satisfying choice for makers with some experience.
The kit includes a detailed, extensively illustrated guide in English. Most steps are explained through clear pictures and remain easy to follow without relying on lengthy written instructions; for this model, the sequence and orientation of each section deserve particular care.
Once complete, Tsutenkaku Ichiban Street offers two ways to display Osaka: compact on the bookshelf or opened fully as an illuminated street that can be explored façade by façade.
