A library rising through several storeys
Abbey Library turns the narrow space between your books into a soaring historic library. Multiple galleries, densely filled shelves and a red spiral staircase lead the eye from the reading area on the ground floor towards the tall windows beneath the roof.
Rather than showing a single reading corner, this Book Nook makes full use of its height. Stairs, balustrades and arched openings connect one level to the next, creating the impression of a much larger building whose next gallery only comes into view beyond the one before it.
What makes Abbey Library stand out
Multi-storey library architecture: bookcases and galleries are arranged across several levels. Slender columns, ornate railings and arched passages define the interior without blocking its depth.
A red spiral staircase at its heart: the staircase rises through the centre of the library and visibly connects each floor. Its warm red tone stands out against the dark wood and muted book spines.
Private corners for reading and writing: a desk, armchairs, side tables and lecterns occupy different parts of the library. Open books and resting manuscripts make the rooms feel used, as though their readers have only just stepped away.
Shelves filled with books and manuscripts: large book-lined walls are broken up by smaller stacks, individual volumes and side shelves, giving the collection the character of a library built over many years.
